BREAKING: Defence Minister, Badaru Resigns
Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has resigned from office with immediate effect, citing health reasons, according to a letter addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on December 1.
The announcement was said to have been confirmed by the Special Adviser to the President on information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The President is said to have accepted the resignation and expressed gratitude to the former minister for his service to the nation. The Presidency is expected to notify the Senate of a replacement before the end of the week.
Badaru, 63, a two-term governor of Jigawa State (2015–2023), was appointed Defence Minister on August 21, 2023. His departure comes at a critical moment in the history of the Country's war on terrorism, coinciding with President Tinubu’s recent declaration of a national security emergency.
