Edo 2024 Guber: I Have Not Endorsed Any Aspirant- Abure...Primaries would be competitive, transperent
From Chris Akhabue
The national Chairman of Labour Party, Barr Julius Abure has said that Labour Party has not endorsed any aspirant for the Edo gubernatorial election coming up in 2024.
He made the declaration yesterday in a Press briefing held in Benin city, the Edo state Capital while appreciating members of the Party for their supports in the last Presidential, Senate, House of Representatives and the House of Assembly elections.
According to Barr Julius Abure, " I want to make it categorically clear that I have not endorsed any aspirant for the Edo governorship election coming up next year.
" The primaries that would produce our candidate for the governorship election coming up next year would be conducted by our deligates and it would be competitive and transparent because our quarrel with the other parties, the PDP and the APC is that they lack internal party democracy which is why they produce leaders that lack the pedigree, the competence and capacity to anchor the affairs of governance which has landed us in the ugly situation we are in today and therefore as an emerging political party who believe that we should change the political narratives in the country, we can not be seen doing the same thing but we must learn from the mistakes of other political parties and be able to improve on our operations.
" Several aspirants are emerging for the governorship election for next year under our party and I want to make it categorically clear that I have not endorsed any aspirant. Delegates of Labour Party would be the ones to choose who takes the ticket when the primaries come and so, we have decided to look ahead by looking at our structure with a view to amending areas where we have defects especially at the unit level and we have decided to set up committees to look at it
"We have also put modalities in place to pursue vigorously membership recruitment because the more members we have the merrier and better for us".
The national chairman who is said to be on a sensitisation tour since a week ago starting from his ward and his unit in Esan North East Local Government Area, Edo Central senatorial district and to the state level said he appreciates the state chairman of the party, Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi whom he said has been very supportive since inception and particularly recently during his trying moments and equally appreciates the state working committee and other support groups for their solidarity support, hard work and the resilience in the 2023 general election which saw the Labour Party scoring 75 percent in the presidential election, and in so doing deprived all other political parties from getting 25 percent in the election.
