Edo 2024: Edo People To Govern Edo Through Me - Ernest Abegbe
By Chris Tony Akhabue
A frontline Edo 2024 Governorship Aspirant, Ernest Osabhuohien Abegbe has said that his government would run an all-inclusive government where all Edo people would govern Edo State through him.
Abegbe made the statement while fielding questions from Journalists in Benin City, the state capital.
According to him, "I know the problems of Edo State and I have the solutions. Infrastructural decay and poor economy are the two basic problems of Edo state.
"When you empower the people and make them gainfully engaged and with good and functional infrastructure coupled with other variables, the economy and the lives of the people will improve."
He noted that the Edo State Ministry of Works need to be decentralized, revamped and repositioned for effective service delivery by having Infrastructure Rapid Response (IRR) in the three senatorial districts that will work simultaneously in consonance with the central objective of responding rapidly to maintenance of public infrastructure to mitigate incessant failures with a mandate of zero potholes across the state.
"Sustainable economy is birthed on the principles of production and consumption. Edo with a population of about 5.1 million with current GDP reading 11.9 billion dollars and a per capital income of 2,338 dollars put together but with targeted people driven socio- economic blueprint at our disposal to mitigate present despondency in the state, the economy will rebound and begin to flourish for the betterment of every Edo citizen.
"From my long painstaking and comprehensive evaluation of the problems of Edo State, the citizens are not asking for too much from the government. I have come to know and understand that the predominant preoccupation in the minds of the people is to be able to have three square meals a day, pay their children school fees, pay their rents and live a comfortable life and that is the minimum we are promising Edo people, my name is Ernest Abegbe and I mean what I say," he assured.
Going further he added: "Employment is a tool with which I intend to fight insecurity in the state. When people are gainfully employed insecurity will reduce drastically and couple with the deployment of my security blueprint, crime and criminality would have been controlled maximally so that investments can thrive in the state."
The Esan born Edo 2024 governorship hopeful who holds a first degree in Accounting, an MBA in Management, MSC in Economics, PDG in Education, a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants, Certified Forensic Account, Financial Economist said he would create transparency and accountability around governance of Edo State adding that he knows what to do to optimize the revenue base so as to stabilize the economy of the state and ultimately the people.
According to Abegbe, "In my government, the impute of the people must be paramount, the concern, fears, hope and aspirations and their welfare must be the parameters on which decisions of any government that want to succeed must be founded, and so, running a one man show is an exercise in futility as it won't achieve the desired objective.
"There must be an interface between the people and the governor. We have created it in our manifesto that there must be accountability day which will be twice in a year where the governor would render record to the people on how the state money is spent. It would be a situation where the people can ask the governor questions on leadership and accountability and a detailed report of the financial dealings of the government would be presented to the people in the open.
"There will be no room for window dressing, we would operate a transparent and accountable government that uplift the people.
"When the people know what we are doing for them, they would want to be inside the government to help us succeed to help them further, they would form the integral part of the Edo government."
