Ikpoba Hill Blockage: Edo Govt Officials Visit Scene of Protest ... remedial repair work has started- Kingsley Osemwigie
The protest by Ikpoba Hill Youths as a result of the bad situation of the Ikpoba Hill road in Ikpoba Okha local government area of Edo state which started Tuesday last week has entered the 8th day today.
The deplorable condition of the road which has made vehicular movement almost impossible particularly in areas starting from around Tony Dee, Christ Chosen Church down to around Two sisters along the long stretch of the road to Okhuaihe in Uhumwonde local government area of Edo state may have irked the youths who took to the streets to protest government's negligence of the road and in the process barricaded the already almost impassable road to draw government attention.
Speaking with the Champion Newspaper correspondent on phone some few minutes ago this morning, the Chairman of Ikpoba Hill Youths Forum, Comrade Kingsley Osemwigie said that the representative of the Edo state governor Mr Godwin Obaseki paid accesment visit to the area of contention yesterday to ascertain the level of disrepair and to assure the protesting youths of government's preparedness to fix the failed portions of the road from the Tony Dee axis up to the two sisters around the bypass while the awaiting the federal government efforts at taking it up from there.
According to him," I want to confirm to you that the representatives of the Governor of Edo state, his Excellency, Mr Godwin Obaseki came to access the extent of damage and to assure us of the government preparedness to fix the failed portions of the road stretching from the Tony Dee axis up to the two sisters around the bypass and I want to also assure you that repair work has started since yesterday from the Tony Dee axis and progressing as far as to Guiness warehouse and I am happy and the Youths of Ikpoba Hill are all very elated about this development of the repairs.
"We want to use this opportunity to appreciate the governor, his Excellency, Mr Godwin Obaseki for his intervention and we appeal to him to also extend the gesture to other parts of the state as Edo is one"
