From Chris Akhabue The Edo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress has said that no aspirants has been screened or disqualified from the governorship race, scheduled to hold September 21, 2024.  It will be recalled that a six-man committee led by the House of Representative member (Owan Federal Constituency, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere was set up last monday to look into ways to prune the number of aspirants from 29 to a 'manageable number.'  After the committee met with the aspirants, a report emerged that the committee had screened and reduced the number to six. However, an unconfirmed list of aspirants  was posted by the Channels Television, a development that has caused rancour in the party. Debunking the report on Tuesday, the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Peter Uwadiae, said the Ihonvbere committee was an advisory one and not a screening committee. The Management of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, has described a recent report in a national newspaper credited to the National Universities Commission (NUC) alleging the existence of illegal satellite campuses being run in the name of the University and awarding certificates, as quite disturbing. It has, therefore, admonished the body to go all out to arrest and swiftly prosecute anyone found to be running such campuses. It also applauded the reported NUC decision to “investigate the proprietors and recover illegal fees and charges on subscribers”. The Edo state LP has denied any involvement in the alleged physical assault in Benin City yesterday on the former National Youth Leader, Mr.  Anslem Eragbe and others who have long been expelled from the Party, an alleged incident which has been circulating in a section of the media.
