Declare Me Winner Okoeguale Urges NNPP Working Committee
The last may not have been heard of the Nigeria National Peoples Party (NNPP) Primary election held on the 21st of February 2024 in which Pastor Azemhen Azena was declared winner as one of the major contenders in the contest, Peter Okoeguale has asked the party's national working committee to declare him winner or Councel the Edo South election and conduct a re run.
He made the statement yesterday at the Conference Hall of the Edo state Nigeria Union Of Journalists in Benin city the Edo state Capital.
According to Peter Okoeguale,
"On the day of the primary we were dismayed to discover that those who were the original delegates from Edo Central were not on the list of delegates that were to vote and were subsequently disenfranchised from the primary process . The list that was presented to the state which was forwarded to Abuja for the primary was now replaced and was made up of purely members of his church, Omega Fire Ministry.
On the day of the primary, the delegates from Edo Central were on ground to exercise their franchise only to be confronted by a large crowd of members of Omega Fire Ministry who now constituted the bulk of the list of the delegates who were not known to the various LGA chairmen.
The Committee sent from Abuja to superintend the process of the primary gave their word that they will ensure that the local government areas chairmen were going to be responsible for identifying the duly accredited delegates of members of their respective wards.
At the voting center, they started compiling fresh delegates list and I have video evidence of that manipulation where members of Omega Fire Ministry were being included in the delegates list and as a result of this unlawful action by Azemhen Azena and members of his Omega Fire Ministry, the various LGA chairmen started protesting with placards right at the venue of the primary against the manipulation as only Omega Fire Ministry members who were not the original accredited delegates were the only people voting
I do not accept the result declared by the committee. I should be declared the winner of the election because I won the election. They should declare me winner or counsel the results and have a rerun otherwise we shall be approaching the courts for litigations
One of the respondent who identified himself as Pastor Igue Mathew, Orhiomwon LGA chairman said that he and all the LGA Chairmen in Edo state are not in support of the primary conducted by the national working committee of NNPP sent from Abuja to conduct the exercise.
According to him we were all disenfranchised because the list of our delegates sent to Abuja was thrown away and the people who emerged for the primary were people we could not identify because they were not our members but members of Pastor Azemhen Azena and not members of NNPP and it was there and then we started to protest the illegality.
Also speaking, the chairman of all the LGA chairmen, Adori Bishop, said there was no election as the people sent from Abuja only succeeded in compromising the process by allowing only members of Azemhen Azena to vote on that day adding that as the chairman of all the LGA Chairmen he would use everything in his constitutional powers to ensure that the right thing was done.
Reacting through the telephone, Pastor Azemhen Azena said ,he was not the person sent from the national working committee to conduct the election in Benin City.
“The Committee they sent to conduct the election had a list sent to them in Abuja and it was like a judgement day, whosoever name was not found in the book of life was not allowed to vote , funny enough,he said I brought my church people to come and vote. If I have done that, I would have given him gap. And a gap that he would not have recovered from. Why? Ikpoba Okha is where my church is.
“The names of my people were not part of the list from Abuja. I never had a list from Ikpoba Okha. I bought 500 delegates forms and none of their names came out. In Egor, none of my list came out from the list they brought from Abuja. In Oredo, only 3 person are my delegates from the list they brought from Abuja.
“Most of the delegates from Edo South were not on ground, when they call their names, they will not be around. So that is what happened. When the names are called, you will not see them ”, he said.
