Comrade Festus Alenkhe was yesterday honoured with the "Beacon of Hope In Africa" award by Youth Coalition For Education In Nigeria (YOCEN)
The award was conferred on him by the Head of Mission, Comrade Yusuf Hassan Abdul who said that the award was in recognition of Alenkhe’s contributions to a better society.
According to him “The award, the Beacon of Hope in African is in recognition of your immense contributions toward societal transformation via human capital development, effective service delivery, educational advancement and your invaluable contributions towards a better society.”
Receiving the award, Mr. Alenkhe, commended YOCEM for finding him worthy for the honour. He said he was only doing his job as a journalist not knowing that his little contributions could be noticed by such a notable body as YOCEN.
On the prevailing economic hardship in the country, Alenkhe appealed to the federal government to look at how it could reduce the tuition fees in the various tertiary institutions so that parents would be able to send their children and wards to school.
He also urged the youths in the country to shun cultism in their various universities and concern themselves with the reason for being in school.
