EDO APC CALLS FOR RESIGNATION OF CP, PROSECUTION OF KILLERS OF POLICE OFFICER

The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and other relevant authorities to immediately investigate and prosecute thugs alleged to have shot and killed a police officer attached to the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Monday Okpebholo at the Airport Road axis of the Benin metropolis yesterday and asked the State Commissioner of Police, CP Funso Adeboye to resign with immediate effect.

The former Edo State commissioner for Information, now media consultant to APC Campaign Council, Prince Kassim Afegbua made the call while briefing the press at the APC Campaign Council Secretariat in Benin City, earlier today.

He said it was disheartening that while the shooting was going on, the Edo State commissioner of Police was on ground and was unable to repel the attack that led to the death of one of his police officers attached to the governorship candidate.

According to him,"It is with heavy heart and serious reservations that the Edo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) bring to your attention the callous, merciless and brutal murder of a serving Police Officer attached to the Governorship Candidate of our party in the September, 2024 Election in Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo".

He said it was disheartening that the candidate of the Party in the coming governorship election, Senator Monday Okpebholo,in the convoy of Rt Hon. Philip was attacked by gun welding thugs, the moment they disembarked from the Airport while the Police Commissioner was there unable to repel the attackers.

"We are sad to State that today, our Candidate was on his way from Abuja in the same entourage with the State Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu who was reinstated to his position yesterday by the Federal High Court when after they disengaged from the Airport, a group of thugs armed with offensive weapons to wit: guns, laid siege, and attacked their convey with a firm set mind to kill our Candidate and in the process a police man, INSPECTOR AKON attached to our Candidate was shot at close range, and he died on the spot while other passersby were injured from stray bullets from the sporadic shooting of the following 
persons and their cohorts who were sighted at the scene brandishing AK47 riffle; cut to size guns and Other assorted dangerous weapons.

"It is disheartening to observe that while the ruthless shootings were going on, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Funso Adeboye was on ground at the Benin Airport and he did nothing to repel the vicious attack which led to the death of one of his officers. 

"From an eye witness account, it is very clear that some of these hoodlums are members of the Edo Vigilante Network who were fully knitted in their uniforms. 

"Indeed, it is very striking to observe that under the watchful eyes of the Edo State Commissioner of Police, one of his serving officers was killed without any iota of concern from him, indicative of the grand design by him in conivance with the State Governor and the PDP Candidate Barr. Asue Ighodalo. 

He went further to add that Edo state was becoming lawless with Edo state Vigilantes whom he alleged are given guns without adequate training, adding that there was urgent need for the relevant authorities to bring the accused persons to justice. 

"As at today, Edo State is in a State of unassumable lawlessness occasioned by the non control of the source of weapons been paraded by members of Edo State Vigilante Network who are recruited without any formal training. 

"We also demand the immediate redeployment of the Commissioner of Police Edo State Command because he has become brazenly partisan in the discharge of his duties".
