MY GOVERNMENT WILL BE PEOPLE - CENTRIC - Barr Olumide Akpata ... I will continue any good project initiated by the outgoing administration because they are tax players money

The Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the coming Edo State governorship election, Bar Olumide Osaigbove Akpata has said that his government would be people oriented.

He made the disclosure while fielding questions from journalists when he paid an unscheduled visit to the Edo Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists in Benin City recently.

According to him, "my party is deeply concerned about the hunger and unemployment in the land and as responsible government, it is our duty to mitigate suffering by tackling the root cause of such needless suffering

Some of the critical areas he identified includes, agriculture, security, health, education and others infrastructure that will ameliorate the suffering the people of the state are now going through.

Akpata said his government will be centred around the welfare of the people adding that the slogan of the party which is “papa, mama and pikin” will be followed to the latter.

He said his government will not turn a blank eye to projects earlier embarked upon by his predecessor if they are aimed at the welfare of the people because the money used in executing them belongs to the people who are the tax payers.

The governorship candidate also said he is a proponent of the local government autonomy

He said at the moment, the local government councils are strangulated financially due to the absence of local government autonomy adding that while granting them their autonomy, the local government council chairmen and their councilors must remain in their domains.

He added that the roads in the state will be attended to whether federal or state provided it has a direct impact on the people of the state.

He said he believes when the federal roads that have direct impact on the people in the state are fixed, the federal government can reimburse the state instead of allowing the citizens to suffer unnecessarily just as he said he will not use the tax payers money for things that will not add value to their lives.
