Some indigenes and residents of Okhuoromi Community in Oredo local government area of Edo State earlier today staged a peaceful protest to register their displeasure against the alleged plan to reinstate Ovbokhan Igbinovia, a former Ohen of Okhuoromi.  The protesters, who defiled the early morning downpour marched through major streets of Benin and called relevant authorities and the Edo State governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II, and the Edo State Police Command to intervene, warning that such a move would pose a direct threat to peace and unity in the community. The contractor handling the Benin-Asaba Expressway and concessionaire of the road, the Benin Asaba Expressway Consesion Company (BAECC) has assured motorists and property owners on the road corridor and the general public of the speedy completion of the road and appealed for patience and understanding, noting that the company understands the inconveniences caused by the ongoing construction.  The Contractor made the appeal in a press release to address public concerns regarding the ongoing construction.  In a statement signed by Dr. Jerry Adeyeri, the Communications Manager of BAECC, the company noted that the seasonal rains has slowed dawn the pace of work as planned.
