Edo deputy Speaker mourns passing of Emeritus Archbishop of Benin, Archbishop Ekpu


Rt. Hon. Maria Omozele Oligbi-Edeko, the Deputy Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, on Wednesday expressed her deep condolences to the Catholic Church over the death of Emeritus Archbishop of Benin, Archbishop Patrick Ebosele Ekpu, saying that he has left a profound void in the hearts of many. 

In a statement, Oligbi-Edeko said the revered Catholic priest, Archbishop Ekpu's dedication to his faith and community spanned decades, touching countless lives with his unwavering commitment to the teachings of Christ.

 In her heartfelt message, she described Archbishop Ekpu as a devoted Christian who embodied the virtues of love, compassion, and humility. 

She highlighted his remarkable ability to inspire faith and hope in others, noting that his life was a testament to the power of true devotion and service.

" Throughout his tenure, he was known for his pastoral care, advocacy for social justice, and commitment to the spiritual and moral upliftment of his congregation.

" His leadership extended beyond the church, as he often engaged in dialogue with political leaders and community stakeholders to promote peace and unity.

"Archbishop Ekpu's unwavering faith and dedication to the service of God and humanity will forever remain an inspiration to us all. 

"He was a shepherd who guided his flock with love and wisdom, leaving an indelible mark on our hearts," she said.

According to her, as the Catholic community mourns the loss of this great spiritual leader, the comforting words, is that 
his legacy of faith, compassion, and service will continue to inspire generations to come. 

Oligbi-Edeko, however, commiserated with His Grace, Most Rev. Augustine Obiora Akubeze, the Archbishop of Benin Catholic Archdiocese, and the entire Edo Catholic Community and pray that God will grant all the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
