Breaking: Patience Jonathan Holds Closed-Door Meeting With Prison Officials Over Unlawful Detention Of Domestic Workers

The former First Lady, Patience Jonathan, the wife of former President of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, is said to have held a secretive meeting with top officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service in Bayelsa State as tension and concerns mount over the controversial detention of 15 of her former domestic workers .

According to sources from Naijaonpoint. com, the workers have been imprisoned for nearly six years without trial.

According to a source close to the situation who spoke with SaharaReporters, Patience Jonathan was seen in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, on Friday, shortly after reports emerged regarding the harsh conditions faced by the detained workers at Okaka Correctional Centre.

It is reported that Patience Jonathan got into Yenagoa and in contact with the officials of the correctional center moment the news of the controversial detention started making the rounds the source revealed.

The source added that Patience Jonathan invited the controller of prisons for the Bayelsa Command and the Assistant Controller in charge of the Okaka Correctional Centre to a meeting at her hotel, Aridolf Resort. The meeting reportedly lasted until around 5 pm on Friday.

There are growing concerns that the former First Lady’s visit could be an effort to suppress further revelations or pressure the prison officials amid public outcry over the prolonged detention of her former domestic staff.

The 15 workers have been detained since 2019, following accusations of missing jewellery reportedly belonging to Patience Jonathan. Despite no conviction or evidence presented in court, their detention has continued without any clear resolution.

The detainees include Williams Alami, Vincent Olabiyi, Ebuka Cosmos, John Dashe, Tamunokuro Abaku, Sahabi Lima, Emmanuel Aginwa, Erema Deborah, Precious Kingsley, Tamunosiki Achese, Salomi Wareboka, Sunday Reginald, Boma Oba, Vivian Golden, and Emeka Benson.

Recall it was reported recently that a young Nigerian, named Precious Kingsley, has spent nearly six years in prison after being arrested in 2019 over missing jewelry belonging to former Nigeria First Lady Patience Jonathan in Bayelsa State.

It was gathered that his only crime was being a frequent visitor to his mother, a domestic worker in the ex-First Lady’s household.

It was further gathered that Kingsley, who was about 20 years old at the time, had been preparing to take his West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) when he was suddenly thrown behind bars.

A family source who spoke to SaharaReporters detailed the ordeal, describing it as an abuse of power that has ruined the young man’s future.

According to the source, “Precious Kingsley is Deborah Erema’s son. Deborah is one of those locked up on the orders of Patience Jonathan over her missing jewelry. He lives in Port Harcourt and used to visit his mother, Deborah, who worked for Patience Jonathan at her residence.”

The source further dismissed any claims that Kingsley was present at Mrs. Jonathan’s household when the jewelry allegedly went missing, stating: “Not at all. He last visited over two months before the incident. The incident happened long after he visited his mother. I think he was preparing for WAEC (WASSCE) then.”

Astonishingly, despite no concrete evidence linking him to the missing jewelry, Kingsley was arrested, detained, and left to rot in prison. His education and future were abruptly halted.

Kingsley is said to have turned 26 last month.
