Joe Ikpea Secures APC Senatorial Ticket for Edo Central
Hon. Joe Ikpea, the former Chairman of the Esan South-East Local Government Council, has officially been nominated as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the upcoming Edo Central Senatorial By-election scheduled for August 16, 2025, as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
In a related development, Barr. Omosede Igbinedion, a former member of the Federal House of Representatives for the Ovia Federal Constituency, will also be the APC candidate for the Ovia Federal Constituency By-election.
At a press conference held at the APC party secretariat in Benin, Dr. Obuaja Stanley Uzomaka, Chairman of the APC 2025 Edo Central Senatorial By-Election Committee, confirmed that Ikpea triumphed over his opponent, Engr. Glory Oziegbe Momodu.
"The primary was conducted peacefully and orderly across all 51 wards of the Edo Central Senatorial District," Uzomaka stated. "Voting was carried out through a direct primary system, and results were collated at both the local government and senatorial district levels."
He added, "Based on the results, Hon. Joseph Ikpea has emerged as the APC candidate for the Edo Central senatorial by-election."
Following the results announcement, an affirmation process was conducted to validate Ikpea's candidacy, in line with party directives and the 2022 Electoral Act.
Meanwhile, Barr. Lucky Ajokperiniovo, Chairman of the APC 2025 Ovia Federal Constituency By-Election Committee, reported that the primary for Ovia was held in 23 wards, resulting in a sole candidate, Omosede Igbinedion.
"It was a hitch-free election, with many aspirants stepping down in support of Hon. Igbinedion," he noted. "The turnout was impressive, and the election was conducted in an orderly manner."
Emperor Jarrett Tenebe, State Chairman of the APC, expressed gratitude for the maturity displayed by party members during the primaries. "With our candidates now in place, we are ready to launch our campaign with renewed vigor. We aim to demonstrate our commitment to winning the elections and proving our earlier successes in the governorship elections," he stated.
As the campaign season approaches, both candidates are poised to engage with constituents and rally support ahead of the pivotal elections.
