Edo 2023: Labour Party Not Working With Obaseki- Ogbaloi
From Chris Akhabue
The Edo State Chairman of Labour Party, Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi has said that Labour Party is not working with the Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) for the House of Assembly election coming up on Saturday the 11th March 2023.
He made the clarification yesterday while speaking with the Press in the party secretariat in Benin City, the Edo State Capital.
According to comrade Ogbaloi, " I want to make it clear here that no Labour Party member or any of our candidate is working with Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) with respect to the next House of Assembly election coming up on Saturday, the 11th of March, 2023. No body in Labour Party is negotiating anything or working with Obaseki of the PDP and so I urge you all to disregard those insinuations that have been trending on social media and in the public space that we are negotiating with Obaseki. It is not true.
"It is just mere fabrications as we are not in any negotiation with anybody or any political party because we are an independent party that has integrity especially at this critical time we are in. We can not afford to tinker with our integrity in the way that is being rumoured around.
"We have made it clear before and would like to reiterate once again that we have formidable, credible and capable candidates of Labour party who are contesting for the House of Assembly elections and we appeal to all our teaming members and supporters of our great Party to come out en mass and vote for our candidates.
"I want to say again that we do not have any agreement with any political party wether PDP or APC and would also want to add that the propaganda being peddled by the APC is from a government that is no longer needed in Nugeria and they are running around to say that Obaseki owns Labour Party is not true but mere falshood. So, I want to tell everybody that Obaseki does not own Labour Party or has any negotiation with Labour Party. We are not working with Obaseki, we have no business with Obaseki, so, you should all disregard any insinuations in that regard.
" I want to therefore appeal to all our members and our teaming supporters in Edo State to come out and replicate exactly what we did last saturday during the presidential election and vote massively for all our House of Assembly members.
Ogbaloi however rejected the result of last saturday presidential election because, according to him, it was marred by too many irregularities.
"We have received the results declared by INEC, and hold the view that the Institution have not done well, as all the results across the Country were riddled with manipulations and contestable outright physical attacks by persons allegedly identified as government agents in collusion with Nigeria Police. In some instances, result sheets and other election materials were taken away. Our expectation, was that by the age of INEC today, they would bring to the electoral table such improvement that can define sophistication and setting of new standards for the world on election management but No, what we saw was shameful compromises, reckless indulgence and thoughtless cancellation of elections in the units and avoidable omissions. The almighty BVAS glowingly extolled by Professor Mamood Yakubu and his gangs was a fiasco".
