Dorry Okojie's NUJ Award and Renewed Hope in Edo State

The way Edo people trooped out to  accompany Dr. Dorry Okojie to the secretariat of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), to receive the Award of Excellence bestowed on him by the union on 3 May 2023, was not only awe inspiring, but also a realization of the people's desire to give the property merchant an opportunity to direct their affairs. 

Alighting from the aircraft that flew him and his encourage to the Benin Airport, Dr. Dorry Okojie was taken by surprise with the avalanche of Edo people who were at  the airport to receive him en route the venue of the award ceremony.

Different youth organisations, some with banners calling on Dr Efosa Dorry Okojie to throw his hat into the Edo State 2024 governorship ring , adorned the airport, just as some danced to music supplied by some other groups. 

Dorry Okojie is one man who has demonstrated that he has the will and capacity to wipe away the people's bugbear. He has so far demonstrated that he is not ready to sleep on the wheel, but will hit the ground running early to to set free the youths, the unemployed who are in the prison of hope.

By virtue of his previous engagements with the youths, the way he has taught Edo youths how to fish and set them out to become fishermen in the past, they have come to the realization that Dr. Dorry Okojie has what it takes to deliver those people who through no fault of theirs were dragged into the poverty peonage.

To demonstrate that he is familiar with the nuances of the mood of the Edo people at every bend, Dr. Dorry Okojie established the Esan Atanakpa Security Outfit to arrest the security challenges confronting Edo Central Senatorial District. This has improved the security of that part of Edo State and will be replicated throughout the state when given the opportunity to govern Edo in 2024.

When asked by news hungry journalists whether he's interested in the 2024 Edo State governorship election, Dorry Okojie once again demonstrated his passion for the promotion of the wellbeing of Edo people as he replied: "Am still consulting. I definitely want to be there for my people. I will really love to direct the affairs and do things better such that there's good inclusiveness. Am interested and and still doing due consultation and am sure you will hear from me when consultations are concluded."


According to an anonymous observer at the NUJ secretariat who's not given to flippant  commentaries, "With the calibre of people I am seeing with Dorry Okojie here today; if they actually follow him into the gubernatorial race, with none falling out on the way, he will be the man to beat in the governorship election".

It is obvious to discerning minds now that Edo people have seen renewed hope in Dr. Efosa Dorry Okojie as the 2024 governorship election beckons on them to make a choice for a new Governor.
