Dorry Okojie Salutes Edo People on Democracy Day

A frontline aspirant for the Edo State 2024 governorship election and philanthropist, Dr Dorry Afe Efosa Okojie has saluted Edo people on this year's Democracy Day and eulogised them for the patriotic role they played during the struggle to revalidate the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election.

In a statement he personally signed and made available to newsmen, Dorry Okojie salutes the doggedness with which Edo people struggled for the enthronement of the present democratic dispensation and urged them to continue to engage all relevant public institutions in election management for a free and fair election.

According to the statement, "I wish to warmly greet Edo people on this auspicious occasion of the nation's democracy day.

"This day reminds us of the day Nigerians decided to jettison all manner of sentiments and cleavages to vote competence and a man with compassion to pilot their affairs, but the usurpers of our political powers in the military alongside their few civilian collaborators truncated it and annulled the freest and most credible election in our history.

"Edo people were at the forefront of the struggle to ensure the reverse of the annulment that election. That struggle birthed democratic processes and government since 1999.

"Though we have not gotten to the ideal, I wish to appeal to all and sundry in Edo State that regardless of the state of the economy and imperfections in our electoral processes, we should be thankful for the freedom we have got through the reclamation of democracy

"Let's be proud of  our country -- proud   because we know that, with faith, determination and unity of purpose,  it is on its path to greatness, and we will surely get there . We are certain that things will turn out to be better for all of us .

"As we celebrate, let me once again salute the courage, resilience and doggedness of Edo people in the enthronement of the present democratic government in Nigeria. I urge you to continue in your quest for the  enthronement of  an egalitarian society for us and our future generations", the statement said.
