THE CAPACITY OF THE YOUTHS IN GOVERNANCE; 2023 GENERAL ELECTIONS IN RETROSPECT, A POINTER TO EDO 2024

By Akpejiori Apollinaris Igenegba.

Three, four, five decades ago, it's said that major decisions and leadership positions in a community are taken by elders because they have the required knowledge and experience to lead and rule the people, even when it seemed that mistakes have been made, they are unquestionable, if you try to, you incur the wrath of the ancestors.

But if we look at it critically, does it mean that the younger ones lacked the required skills, and knowledge to deliver on tasks if given, or lacked the necessary experience or capacity to take up leadership positions and make decisions.

Capacity is the ability to perform a given task, even in the face of challenges, it's not derived or learned, it's inherent in an individual. Capacity doesn't know age, location, strata, status or occupation, it just comes out naturally without coersion or intimidation, it produces results seemlesly and distinguishes itself even in the face of challenges and discomfort.

Going forward, the Nigerian General Elections opened another chapter in the history books of Nigeria's political landscape, distinguishing between results and rethorics, firmness and feebleness, it distinguished between the capacity of the old and the young, changing the narrative that the Youths have no place in the corridors of power. The Youths showed the Elders what it means to match words with actions, being the Hallmark of capacity, as it's the reality of things from the electoral wave of change across the Country.

With the emphatic statement made at the just concluded general elections by the Nigerian Youths, it goes to show that the old narrative that Nigerian Youths lack capacity is only but a fallacy as the capacity of a man is not in his physical attribute or words of his mouth, but the result he or she can deliver if he is given a task.

The next election to decide the fate of our dear Edo State is just around the corner, and now is the right time to know the best candidate has the capacity to deliver good governance to our dear state.

Dr Dorry Afe Okojie has over the years contributed his quota to the well-being of his people in Edo State, Nigeria, by using his wealth and resources to put smiles on the faces of the downtrodden.
He does not like to blow his trumpet himself but his good works have often spoken loud of his demeanour as a man with the heart of gold. Having started a business early in life, one thing has remained constant for him and that is him being a stickler for success which is one thing that has given him a distinct identity.

He is a man of his word and he believes his words are his bond, more reason he has remained a successful man who many believe in his capacity to deliver.

With his wealth of experience in family, business and social life, Dr. Dorry Okojie remains a frontrunner, a man with capacity who has been able to navigate between business and family life, without any of them clashing, but churning out results to the amazement of many, he is a perfect example of a square peg in a square hole.

For Edo State to become the Dreamland we envisage and a home of modern development, this is the time to make the choice of good governance and leadership, one who has the heart of the people, one who has the mental aura of classic infrastructural development, one who knows that human capital development is non-negotiable, one who has taken the welfare of the less privileged as his daily routine, one who knows that the growth of our economy can not be over-emphasized, one who knows that the well-being of the Workers remains the engine room of the thriving economy, and Dr. Doory Afe Okojie is that man.
