Benin City Agog As Fr. Obinyan Marks 25th Priestly Ordination Anniversary
BENIN CITY- It was a celebration galore as colleagues, family members, friends and well-wishers gathered at St. Francis Catholic Church on College Road, Benin City, Edo State to mark the 25th Priestly Ordination Anniversary of Very Rev Fr. Andrew Aigbe Obinyan, the Parish Priest of the church.
The Special Thanksgiving Mass was held yesterday, Sunday 22nd October, 2023.
The Mass, attended by dignitaries from within and outside the country, including Edo State Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, representative of the Esama of Benin, Sir, Chief, Dr. Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, Vice Chancellors of various universities in the country and family members led by the mother, Theresa Obinyan witnessed the unveiling of a book titled: "The Mystical Potency of Blessings and Curses - Reawakening the Human Consciences", authored by the celebrant Very Rev. Fr. Andrew Obinyan.
In a homily, Rev. Fr. Stephen Ogbaiye from the Vertical City, Rome, said nobody becomes a Priest for himself or his immediate family, adding that the Priest is called to be a victim who sacrifice the lamb.
According to Fr. Ogbaiye, "In the life of Very Rev. Fr. Andrew Obinyan in the last twenty five years with unbroken relationship with God, unbroken faithfulness with God in his church, we cannot tell it all."
The Book titled: "The Mystical Potency of Blessings and Curses - Reawakening the Human Consciences, authored by Very Rev. Fr. Obinyan was unveiled by the Vice Chancellor, University of Benin, Prof. Lilian Salami and the State Deputy Governor Comrade Philip Shaibu.
Some of the guests at the event described Rev. Fr. Obinyan as a charismatic Priest and prayer warrior, urged him to continue his good work in God's vineyard and pray to God Almighty to continue to shower His blessings and protection upon him.
The ceremony later shifted to a reception ground, where the celebrant flanked by other priests cut the anniversary cake.
Speaking to The9JaTREND, the celebrant, Very Rev. Fr. Andrew Aigbe Obinyan said, "25 years of my Priestly is just like yesterday, it has come and gone, and is being so challenging. Yes very eventful, very inspiring, because service to God is the best that any man can be called to do.
"So, l am really thanking God for His faithfulness, for divine preservation, and for courage, for strength and for faith that He has given me. So, l thank Him specially today.
Going further, Fr. Obinyan said in celibate life, you are alone, loneliness is something you have to grapple with prayerfully, otherwise you find that sadden and sometime you have a rethink why am l leaving like this, you have nobody you call your owe, nobody in your house, no child, nobody at all, you have to just be alone, but in the course of time, you get use to it, but sometimes, it gives you very lonely moments."
Earlier, on Saturday 21st October, 2023, Rev. Fr. Andrew Obinyan organised Free Medical Outreach to mark his 25th Priestly Anniversary.
The free medical outreach included Free Screening for Blood Sugar, BP, Typhoid, Maleria, Free Medications, Free eye Test and Glasses.
Very Rev. Fr. Andrew Aigbe Obinyan was ordained along with 13 others 25 years ago.
