"There is a profession known as social work which is social work based that promotes social change, engenders empowerment for the less privileged thereby making the society a better place.

"This month of March is works month and we as UNIBEN Students, we are having our annual works week which is always in the month of March and our program started since last Monday and today we are honouring about thirteen of our students who have distinguished themselves in different ways in Dinner/ Award night

"Today, we are honouring some important dignitaries in the larger society and within the campus who are social workers and Honourable Kingsley Osemwigie happens to be one of such people because of his numerous contributions to the students, the department and to the association.

" Honourable Kingsley Osemwigie is a father figure to many of us in the campus. He is a man who speaks less but does more. He is sponsoring many of the students in the department even though he himself is also a student in the department and we felt that such humanitarian gesture from a fellow student deserved to be applauded and rewarded.

Also speaking to this reporter at the event, the departmental President of Social Works, Adams Ademola, said that National Association Of Social Works Students (NASOWS) has an annual event in the months of March targeted at bringing all social works students both the part time and the full time students for a get together.

He said social works is an integral aspect of our society as it engenders social mobilisation to foster better coexistence as social works give voice to the voiceless in the society, helping to bring oneness amongst the people in our society.

According to him, "as social doctors we employ theories to address societal problems and consequently ensuring a better society for all.

"The former President of the federal republic of Nigeria, President Muhamadu Buhari signed into law the social works bill to enable social workers operate maximally as a recognized profession for the wellbeing of the society and I therefore call on the government at state level and other relevant agencies to allow the domestication of this bill so that humanity can benefit from the immense potentials that this profession is endowed with.

Responding, one of the recipient who bagged the award of honour for outstanding philanthropic and humanitarian gestures to the students and to the department of social works, Honourable Kingsley Osemwigie said he was elated for the award adding that he never knew that his colleagues at the department were taking notes of his kind gestures stressing that the award to him is a call to duty.

"I never knew that my course mates were taking notes of some of the assistance I render for my co-students and for our association. I see this award as a call for more work for my course mates, to our department, social works department, to our association and to humanity in general.

" I want to use this opportunity to thank my colleagues, my course mates and all the students of social works department and the organizers of this event who have considered me worthy for this great honour.

"I want to assure you all that by the Grace of God, that our next year is going to be very great in Jesus name.

"Social Works is already known all over the world and my prayers is that during our time, social works would impart the whole world with the objective of our academic studies . I thank the President and the organizers of this great event, kudos to you guys as I pray for more knowledge and understanding for everyone of us all as we continue to support social works for the benefits of humanity, may God bless you all" he concluded.
