Edo deputy speaker mourns passing of Onyeka Onwenu





The Deputy Speaker, Edo House of Assembly, Rt. Hon (Mrs) Maria Omozele Oligbi-Edeko on Wednesday expressed sorrow over the death of Dr Onyeka Onwenu. 

Oligbi-Edeko in a statement, described Onyeka Onwenu as a legendary artist whose music and performances resonated with millions of people across the globe

She stated that Onyeka Onwenu was also a staunch advocate for social justice and women's rights. 

"She used her platform to promote unity, peace, and the empowerment of women, serving as a beacon of hope and inspiration to countless Nigerian women.

"It is with profound sadness that we mourn the passing of Onyeka Onwenu, a veteran Nigerian singer, songwriter, and actress whose contributions to nation-building are immeasurable. 

"Onyeka Onwenu was a towering figure whose impact went beyond entertainment. 

"She was a trailblazer who championed the cause of women and used her voice to advocate for change and progress in our society. 

" Her legacy will continue to inspire future generations to strive for excellence and uphold the values she so passionately believed in, " Oligbi-Edeko said. 

According to her, Our hearts goes out to her family, friends, and all who were touched by her extraordinary life and work. May her soul rest in peace.
