Members of the Obaretin Community in Benin City of Edo State has accused one Emmanuel Aigbogun of aiding the release of Lucky Imasuen Osifo Ogiamen and Uyi Osaheni who are said to be standing trial for the murder of Edwin Ogiemwense who was brutally killed on the 29th of March 2023 in Ubiaza community.

Speaking to Journalists in a peaceful protest to the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Benin City the Edo State capital earlier in the week, the spokesperson of the Community, Apostle (Dr) Cassy Chukwu said that they were at the Edo NUJ to demand for justice for the murder of Emmanuel Aigbogun.

According to him, "Few years ago there was a problem between Ubiaza Community and Obaretin Community and when the problem was escalating the IG then wrote to the Palace of the Oba of Benin to inquire if there was a community known in the kingdom as Ubiaza Community and the Palace replied that there was no known community with that name in Benin kingdom and having known the truth of the matter, Edwin Ogiemwense went back to his people to inform them of his resolve to discontinue the fight since the Palace has confirmed that there was no community as Ubiaza Community and had thereafter pledged to live peacefully with Obaretin Community dwellers .

"This resolved of Edwin Ogiemwense to live peacefully with Obaretin Community angered Lucky Imasuen Osifo and Uyi Osaheni who mobilized about 16 other people to pull down the roof and the windows of Edwin Ogiemwense' house. Edwin Ogiemwense in the process ran to the Police ( Zone 5) to make a report of the attack and the AIG promptly sent some officers to the community to invite the accused for questioning and getting to the community, on sighting the Police Officers in company of Edwin Ogiemwense, the accused opened fire and started shooting and in the process, Killed Edwin Ogiemwense in the presence of the Nigerian Police men. After the killing, the killers started making videos of the deceased.

"The killers were later arrested and the former DPP said that the accused people have a case to answer but before we knew what was happening, two of the accused had been released and Emmanuel Aigbogun, Uyi Obasuyi and Lucky Imasuen are claiming that the Governor of Edo State gave the Edo State Attorney General of the state to ask them to be released from detention and we heard that arrangements are near completion to have the rest of the accused released.

We are calling for justice because since these people have been released, there have been renewed spate of killings in the Benin metropolis .
