EVBIAKAGBA COMMUNITY INSTALS VICTOR IGBINIDUN UYIGUE AS OKAIGHELE.
It was all pump and pageantry last Saturday in Evbiakagba Community in Ikpoba Okha local government area of Edo state as the community played host to people from all walks of life as Victor IGBINIDUN Uyigue was installed as the Okaighele of the Community.
The ceremony witnessed by hundreds of people began at the Oguedion where the traditional rites to initiate the installation was conducted by the Odionwere of the community head, Pa Raphael Uwaifiokun Iyioha.
Highlights of the installation ceremony witnessed remarkable excitement as community members particularly the Youths and women sang and danced, basking in the euphoria of the installation of Victor IGBINIDUN Uyigue as the new Okaighele of Evbiakagba Community.
Speaking to members of the Press present at the occasion, a prominent member of the youth of the community, Mr Jeff Erise pointed out that the community has been very peaceful adding that there has not been any problem at all in the community but that the need for the installation of a new Okaighele was necessitated by the need to follow due process since the former Okaighele has spent above the recommended tenure of eight years in office.
According to him, " We thank our Royal Father, His Royal Magesty, the Omo N' Oba N' Edo Uku Akpolo kpolo, Oba Ewuare 11 , for the peace and tranquility in Benin kingdom. In our community here, we have a tradition of eight years tenure for an installed Okaighele and after that number of years in office, a new Okaighele must be installed and that is just what you are seeing here today, the installation of Victor Igbinidun Uyigue.
"The installation of our new Okaighele represents a groundbreaking chapter in the history of our community, a chapter that promises to be marked by progress, prosperity, and unity. With Victor Igbinidun Uyigue at the helm, we are poised to scale unprecedented heights and usher in an era of unparalleled growth and development.
He concluded by promising to be resolute in their determination to stand behind him as he assumes the mantle of leadership as the new Okaighele.
Another youth, Brown Osemwegie, who also spoke to the Press at the event, said he was delighted to witness the installation of the new okaighele.
According to him, " We are happy today to witness the installation of a new Okaighele because we were no longer happy with the conduct of the farmer Okaighele, Mr Lucky Iduehimen. Since he was installed as the okaighele, his conduct was completely at variance with the expectation of the community people. He was not carrying the rest of us along . He only selected about three people whom he was working with, leaving the rest people including the elders of the community . He was selling the community land and taking the proceeds for himself alone without being accountable to the community people and the elders. Aside from not being accountable to the general community, he has overstayed in the position. Under normal circumstances, he is expected to stay for either years if he was doing well but now he has been in the saddle for about thirteen years now which is long overdue".
Responding, the newly installed Okaighele of Evbiakagba Community, Victor Igbinidun Uyigue thanked the Royal Magesty, the Oba of Benin kingdom for the peace in the land.
According to him, I thank the Omo N' Oba N' Edo Uku Akpolo Kpolo, Oba Ewuare 11 for the peace in the land.
"I would like to use this medium to thank everyone present today for coming to join us to witness my installation as the okaighele of Evbiakagba community
"I assure you all that during my tenure as the Okaighele of this community, I will do everything within my power to attract development and to ensure that there is Peace in our community" As you can see everywhere is peaceful, there is no fight,no quarrel and I want to thank God for it.
Like I have promised the elders inside the Oguedion during the installation, I promise to work with the entire community people, to be transparent in all that I do. I promise to be loyal to all, particularly to the Odionwere of the community. As you can see, there is no market here in this community, there is no school, no health Center, no road, over two months now there is no light but by the Grace of God, a new transformer will be installed very soon, there would be a new market built and there would be a health Center to be built soon. Our children trek long distance to Idogbo community to attend School and that is no longer acceptable as a school will be built for our people to attend".
Present to witness the installation of the new okaighele was chief Igbineweka Imaghodor representative of the Palace of the Oba of Benin kingdom.
According to him," I have come to witness the installation of a new Okaighele in this community according to the tradition of the land. It is our tradition to elect a new person into the position of okaighele after a period of time spent by the sitting okaighele and that is what we are doing today to elect a new Okaighele and to promote some of the youth into elders council in fulfillment of the culture of the land.
He therefore advised the people to continually ensure that there is peace in the land.
The Odionwere of the community, Pa Raphael Uwaifiokun Iyioha thanked the Oba of Benin, his royal Majesty, Omo N' Oba N' Edo Uku Akpolo Kpolo, Oba Ewuare 11 for the peace in the land.
According to him," I want to thank the Oba of Benin kingdom. Oba khato Okpere Ise.
" I want to thank you all for the peaceful manner in which the installation was conducted which remained peaceful from the start to finish and I pray that the development that is anticipated from the whole exercise will not elude us in this community.
" I followed every step by step procedure as it has always been done according to the culture and tradition of our land in the installation of the new okaighele and it was peaceful and I pray that peace will continue to be the Hallmark of our community and other communities in Benin kingdom, Oba khato Okpere Ise ".
