Ambrose Alli University Management Dismantling Restrictive Policies Impositions To Achieve Excellence
The Principal Assistant Registrar/ Head, Information and Public Relations, Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma, Mike Ade Aledenika has said that the current management of the AAU Ekpoma, is systematically dismantling the restrictive policies impositions by the previous Special Intervention Team (SIT) and making huge success in repositioning the University for greater academic excellence.
He made the disclosure today at the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo State Council, while interacting with newsmen in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
According to him, " the current administration, of Professor Sunday Olowo Samuel, inherited a dormant part-time program with significant challenges, including backlog of un-cleared claims, examinations, and other issues. These challenges were largely due to poor government funding over the past eight years and restrictive policies imposed by the previous Special Intervention Team (SIT). Despite these challenges, the current administration has made notable progress in revitalizing the program. The Directorate of Sciences and Humanities (DSH) has seen significant improvements
under Prof. Samuel's leadership so much so that after an 11-month delay, the 2022/2023 first semester lectures commenced in March 2024 and concluded with examinations in January 2025.
He however observed that despite the ongoing successes recorded in revamping and overhauling the administrative engine room of the institution for utmost service delivery aimed at academic excellence, some individuals who were instrumental in fostering the Special Intervention Team (SIT) into the University were back with their rumour mongering with a view to demarketing the institution
"We took notice of the publication with the headline 'AAU Students protest over exams delays, Unpaid Lecturers and Management Inaction'.
"The facts are that a gathering was held at the university gate, where part-time students from the Directorate of Sciences and Humanities (DSH) sought clarification on their course of study. The university management promptly responded to their concerns, providing further information and assurances that satisfied the students. There was no protest that warranted tension in the university, contrary to the erroneous report.
He further added that," mischief makers have been spreading false narratives to demarket our institution for their personal gains. These individuals, who were instrumental in bringing the Special Intervention Team (SIT) regime into the university, are back with their fabrications. One online platform has published false stories about AAU, including a recent report about an alleged protest and the shutting of our university's gate.
He pointed out that the University has instituted several reforms aimed at seamless quality service delivery such as the IRMS form which ensures that no registered student has missing results, ensuring students graduate within the stipulated timeframe, except in cases of individual's fault and several other similar initiatives which have positioned the University to be capable of competing favourably with international best standards.
"By implementing these changes, Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma demonstrates its commitment to improving academic processes and student experience. Beyond the faculties and departments sourcing alternative power supplies, the state government has announced plans to provide a 1.5-megawatt alternative power supply
to support all sectors of our main campus. Additionally, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) will be installing a solar plant, a testament to our university's
prominence in the South-South region. Notably, Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma is the
sole beneficiary of this initiative in the region. Furthermore, we've signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a Chinese university, paving the way for technology transfer and exchange programs. This
partnership will undoubtedly enhance our academic and research capabilities, solidifying our position as a leading institution" he concluded
