Ikpoba Hill Residents Plead For Urgent Intervention On Benin- Agbor Road
...the too many failed portions will cut off Edo from the Eastern parts of the country
The residents of Ikpoba Hill in Ikpoba Okha local government area of Edo State have appealed to the Edo State government to urgently intervene in the deplorable state of the Benin-Agbor road which has continued to cause serious hold-ups as a result of the dilapidated condition of the road connecting the state to the Eastern parts of the country.
They made the appeal during the weekend in Benin City at an enlarged meeting to discuss the issue of the road which has become almost impassable due to its deplorable condition.
According to a press release issued, signed by the Chairman of the group, Kingsley Osemwegie, and made available to the press earlier today in Benin City, the group appealed to the governor to urgently see the need to intervene in the poor state of the Benin-Agbor road as it a strategic road linking the state to the Eastern parts of the country adding that if urgent comprehensive palliative efforts is not done on the several failed portions of the road before September, it will cut off the State from the rest parts of the Eastern States of the country.
According to the statement, " We the entire people of Ikpoba Hill want to use this medium to thank our amiable governor, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, the executive governor of Edo State for his unreserved pursuit of the general good of Edo people.
"We want to thank our governor for all the giant developmental strides going on in the state such as the Ramat Park flyover, several roads rehabilitation projects, the robust educational reforms, enhanced security architecture just to mention but a few.
"We have watched with keen attention since your assumption of office as the governor of Edo State and we have come to the conclusion that you mean well for Edo people and it is therefore safe to conclude that Edo State would attain its full potential of a progressive state with you at the saddle and we therefore want to use this medium to pledge our unalloyed allegiance to your resolve to position our state as a good reference case of a truly developed state.
"We would also like to use this channel to draw your attention to the deplorable condition of the Benin-Agbor road which is taking its toll on the people of Ikpoba Hill and other road users who ply the route daily in search of their daily means of livelihood.
"Your Excellency Sir, recall that some few months ago you visited the bad road in question for on the spot accessment and you promised to fix the road and we were excited. But the moment you left Ikpoba Hill, all the equipment we saw that day in readiness for the road rehabilitation left and as we speak nothing is going on there.
"Recall that sometimes in 2023, Ikpoba Hill Youths barricaded the Benin-Agbor road to draw the attention of the then governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, to the road which had then become a death trap as so many people were dying on the road due to incessant road accidents and goods and services were wasted as trailers and containers with loads of goods were falling off daily as a result of the gullies and craters on the road.
"Remedial efforts were administered by the Obaseki administration then but unfortunately it didn't stand the test of time as it is back to its deplorable state of disrepair and if urgent attention is not paid before September, Edo State would be cut off from the Eastern parts of the country.
"We are therefore calling on our people- centered governor to come to the aid of the people of Ikpoba Hill to administer comprehensive palliative on the failed portions of the road starting from the Tony Dee bus stop axis to the two sisters around the bypass axis of the road."
One of the respondents, Osadolor Moses, who spoke with this reporter, appealed to the Peoples' governor to expedite actions to remedied the deplorable condition of the Benin-Agbor road.
" I am using this opportunity to thank our working governor for his people centered governance. Edo people are very happy with your people centered leadership.
"We the people of Ikpoba Hill are very happy with our working governor and we are appealing to you to come to our aid by repairing the Benin-Agbor road which is causing so much hardship to the residents and other commuters plying the road on a regular basis," he concluded.
