AAU Management vs ASUU: Setting the Record Straight

Image
The management of Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma has responded to a recent publication by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), AAU Chapter, alleging that the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sunday Olowo Samuel, claimed to have cleared all staff arrears. According to Otunba Mike Aladenika, Principal Assistant Registrar and Head of Information, Protocol, and Public Relations, the ASUU's claim is far from the truth. The Acting Vice-Chancellor's 31-paragraph address to journalists did not state that all outstanding salary arrears had been paid. Instead, he emphasized the administration's commitment to gradual liquidation of these arrears. In his speech, Professor Samuel highlighted prompt payment of salaries and pensions as a hallmark of his administration, and noted that the university had implemented the new minimum wage of N70,000 as soon as it was approved. Aladenika questioned where ASUU got their information from, given the Acting Vice-Chancellor...

WHAT HON. JOSEPH IKPEA TOLD ME

Image
By Chris Akhabue   It was a cool airy Sunday evening of April 2025. The raging afternoon Sun had subsided and the atmosphere was friendly as the April evening breez was caressing the trees and the flowering plants at the luxurious scenery of our meeting place . As I walked through the paved paths, the flawlessly mowed lawns and the flowers savoured the endearment of the Sunday evening gentle winds as the leaves and flowers swayed as if Congenially recognizing and welcoming each visitor as they came. As I stepped into the revolving doors of the reception of the building where the press briefing was scheduled to hold, the cool and refreshingly gratifying air from the air conditioners and the serenity of the ambience was too comforting to be ignored. I picked up my cell phone and dialed the phone number through which I was invited for the meeting and I sank fully into one of the soft leader sofas at the reception. I relaxed fully to savour the c...

Hon. Joseph Ikpea Fits The Bill

Image
Martin Luther King Jr. once said, and I quote, “The ultimate measure of a man's integrity is not where he stands in moments of convenience and comfort, but where he stands in times of challenges and difficulties.” -  The above didactic quote aptly illustrates Hon Joseph Ikpea's unassuming character traits and personality.  His trademark, his unruffled mien is undoubtedly a reflection of a man whose nobility of intentions and fidelity of dreams can't be melted by challenges. Herein lies his strength for which he has won the hearts, respect and admiration of friends and colleagues around the globe. It is no wonder therefore, that his resounding achievements both in the organized private sector and the public service in the face of the global economic downturn is indicative of his resilience and flawless capacity to articulate and implement people-oriented policies and decisions in the face of tough challenges. A man of his words, tested, trusted, result oriente...

It has become clear that some of these groups, previously given limited authorization to collaborate with the Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) under clearly defined terms, have grossly violated the conditions of their engagement and resorted to cash collections, extortions, social harassment and intimidation. Specifically, the activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), ANNEWAT, and Drivers on Wheel, are hereby banned with immediate effect. These unions are not authorized to collect any form of dues, levies, taxes, or charges from motorists, drivers, traders, or any member of the public in Edo State. This ban also extends to Atalakpa Rec...

VOTE IKPEA; VOTE DEVELOPMENT

Image
The sweetness of political promises is not a guarantee that implementation is assured. What determines implementation can only be found in the character content of those making the political promises. A man without character may have the gift of sweet tongue to make promises, when in reality the intention and competence to drive and accomplish such promises are in severe deficit. When we say Hon Joseph Ikpea is defined by actions, the message is clear-- that is, his promises are not for fun or vote catching tactics. He has demonstrated evidence of capacity and competence in many spheres of previous and current engagements. He has that rare commendable character content to weave promises into action and deliver same for the good of society and expand the scope of development in all sectors of Edo Central Senatorial district. Joseph Ikpea has courage, which is a trait of a good leader. Rather than giving excuses for problems or lamenting in the face of challenges, he has pr...
