The Vice Chairman of Egor Local Government Council, Hon. Kenny
Isokpan, who represented the council Boss during the environmental exercise which took place on the 25th of October, being the last saturday of the month of October, has said that the exercise recorded huge success, even though some market women flouted the order of the state government, most especially at the Useh market and Uwelu market.

Speaking with Journalists immediately after the exercise on the level of compliance of the government order, the vice- chairman frowned at the response of some market women. "So far so good, we have recorded about 60 percent compliance, we just left Useh market and we are now at Evbotubu market where there is low turnout, not only Evbotubu market, but also at Useh market".

You will recall the last environmental exercise before today, Hon. Osaro Eribo, the council chairman was around to supervise the exercise and he frowned at the low turnout, having seen the response and gave his words that the attitude of none compliance must not be repeated again.

" Surprisingly again they also flouted the state government instructions. But however the council has its mechanism in place to enforce the law and I can assure you that the defaulters would be brought to book when non observance of this exercise repeats itself again, he noted".

On the allegation of illegal collection of money from market women to shade their wares during the exercise, he said such an act must be checkmated and if anyone found involved in such ugly trend must be brought to book. He therefore called on the relevant law enforcement agency to take note and persecute those found wanting.

On the issues of motorable roads leading to the Uwelu market, he had this to say, "As you all know, the executive Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo is a listening Governor and I can assure you that immediately after the rains, the Governor will do something about it and plans are already on ground for the rehabilitation of the roads leading to the market and also measures have been put in place to curb illegal collection of money on environmental sanitation exercise days like today".

The chairman of waste management in Uwelu market, Austin Osagie denied the allegation of sub charges noting that the market women around the market premises are those who brought their goods from various villages to the market as early as 4:00 to 5:00 am early in the morning because today is their market day being on every 4 days of the week but that they are not allowed to shade their goods until after the hours of the exercise which is 7-10 a.m. "As you can see that all stores are locked up stressing that the allegation of illegal collection of money for business to go on during the monthly environmental exercise is not true and that if anyone in doubt can verify the allegations," he noted.

Also fielding questions from Journalists, the Director of Environmental health services, Egor L.G. Council, Sanitarian Mrs. Evelyn Ediagbonya, said, "Today, we have done well and from here at Evbotubu market we are going to the dump site to see the extent of work done so far and how we are going to maintain the dump site very well. Now we are here and the work is going on fine as you can see. The pay-loader and the tipper truck are doing the job very well and everything is going on well".

"So far, so good. We have done well. 60 percent is more than a pass mark, we have gotten 60 percent and also we have a monitoring team to arrest defaulters and mobile court have been put in place at the council's Secretariat to prosecute those who flout the government order and those prosecuted are made to pay some fine depending on the gravity of the offence and some defaulters are compelled to do community service (Labour) for 2 hours".

Prominent among those present during the exercise were Heads of Departments, local government functionaries, Journalists and Uniform pipers. Vehicular and pedestrian movements were restricted until after 10:00 am, which is the expiration time allotted for the exercise.
