240 Indigents Of Okpella Community Benefits From Dangote Cement Empowerment In Edo

The Dangote Cement PLC has empowered 240 indigents of the Okpella community in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo.
The 100 women were given 100,000 each to support their business, 60 farmers trained, supported with improved crops, farming tools while 80 students both secondary and tertiary institutions were given scholarships for their education.
Speaking at the launching of the programme on Tuesday, the Plant Director, Dangote Cement, Okpella Plant, Dr. Ismaeel Mohammed said 240 persons to benefit from the empowerment programme.
Muhammed, who was represented by the Financial Controller Dr. Tanko Lawal said the empowerment is under the company's social investment intervention programme for women, farmers and students captured in the extant Community Development Agreement (CDA).
"Today, we are witnessing an historic occasion in our journey of mutual development with the Okpella community.
" This empowerment programme is the second of five year of empowerment for the community by Dangote Cement.
"And 240 persons have been selected to benefit from our social intervention programme.
"The beneficiaries were selected from the company’s host communities of Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo," he said.
Also, the Director Stakeholder Management, Mr Patrick Omokhagbon disclosed that the company had embarked on the construction of some roads in Afokpella.
"I want to say that the company is also carrying out other social responsibilities such as installation of transformers to communities, installation of solar street lights, boreholes among others," he said.
Earlier, the Chairman Executive Committee of Host Community, Chief Peter Afiabor commended the company for the gesture.
Afiabor advised the beneficiaries to make use of the rare opportunity from the Dangote Cement Plc.
He urged members of the communities to sustain the peaceful coexistence currently being enjoyed with the company.
