Allegations of Scrapped Benin Passport Center, Extortion Unfounded- NIS

Findings just revealed that a publication alleging the scrapping of the Benin Passport production center of the Nigeria lmmigration Service, Edo state command is fake news and should be disregarded by members of the public.

A team of journalists that visited the lmmigration command's headquarters in Benin city reports that there is no extortion of applicants due for international passport as posited in the fake news.

The fake news report do not reflect the true situation in Edo State Command of the Nigeria Immigration service.

The reporters' findings revealed that international Passport processing within Edo state command is carried out in a transparent, orderly, and professional manner, strictly in accordance with the established rules of engagement and extant regulations of the Nigeria Immigration service.

It is now clear that the said report is entirely false, baseless, and appears to be the product of deliberate misinformation, possibly orchestrated by disgruntled individuals seeking to tarnish the image of the Immigration Service and its personnel in Edo state.

On the issue of SCRAPPED Benin City passport production center, It was confirmed by the visiting Journalists that, Production of lnternational Passports in Benin City has not been scrapped and no applicant is left stranded as alleged in the fake and unbalanced report.

It is true that the Federal Government has commissioned lnternational Passport centralized production centre in Abuja and some states have been migrated into the system.

It was discovered that Edo State, Benin passport office, is yet to be migrated to the central production system in Abuja as the process is ongoing.

The team of journalists are however calling on members of the public to disregard the said publication in its entirety, as it is unfounded and clearly intended to blackmail and discredit the Passport Control Officer, as well as officers and men of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Edo State Command.

The author of the report did not visit the Immigration headquarters in Benin City, to verify the issue to balance the report as enshrined in the ethics of the Journalism profession. This can best be described as “Yellow Journalism.”
