The Senator representing Edo Central Senatorial District, Senator Joseph Ikpea, has commended the Edo State Government and the State Police Command for their renewed offensive against kidnapping and cultism, following the arrest of suspects involved in a recent abduction in Benin City.

In a statement released through his office, Senator Ikpea praised the police for what he described as “gallantry and professionalism” in apprehending the kidnappers responsible for abducting a woman at the busy vegetable market along Airport Road on Sunday.

He noted that the public parade of the suspects by the Edo State Police Command underscores the state government’s resolve to tackle criminality head-on. According to him, the development reflects Governor Monday Okpebholo’s commitment to practical governance focused on security and the protection of lives and property.

“I want to express my appreciation to the governor for his unflinching resolve to curb kidnapping and cultism in Edo State,” Ikpea said. “The swift arrest and parade of these suspects demonstrate a clear determination to rid the state of criminal elements and restore public confidence.”

The senator further emphasized that the administration’s approach signals a broader commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy, particularly in ensuring safety across the state.

While applauding the efforts of security agencies, Ikpea stressed that the fight against crime must be a collective responsibility. He urged residents to support law enforcement agencies by providing timely information and remaining vigilant.

“The war against kidnapping, cultism, and other social vices is not for the government and the police alone. It requires the active participation of all citizens,” he added.

Meanwhile, Governor Okpebholo, who was present during the parade of the suspects, reiterated his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on violent crimes. He disclosed plans to establish a special court dedicated to the swift prosecution of kidnapping and cultism cases.

According to the governor, the move is aimed at ensuring expedited justice and deterring would-be offenders. He revealed that directives were issued immediately after the incident for security agencies to track down and arrest the perpetrators.

The Edo State Police Command had earlier confirmed the arrest of suspects linked to the abduction, which occurred in broad daylight, raising public concern over security in the metropolis.

Authorities maintain that intensified operations will continue across the state as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and enhance public safety.
