By Chris Akhabue, Edo
As the world marks World Environment Day 2026, the Managing Director of the Edo State Waste Management Board (EWMB), Dr. Lucky Enehita-Inegbenehi, has called on residents of the state to take greater responsibility in safeguarding the environment.
In a statement issued on Friday, Dr. Enehita-Inegbenehi urged citizens to reflect on their individual and collective roles in promoting environmental sustainability.
“A cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Edo can only be achieved through our collective actions,” he said. “From proper waste disposal to reducing waste generation and embracing recycling, every positive action counts.”
Highlighting the significance of this year’s theme, he noted that the condition of the environment is closely tied to the future well-being of society.
“Our land and our future are interconnected. The choices we make today will determine the quality of life for generations to come,” he added.
The EWMB boss reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to strengthening waste management systems, promoting environmental awareness, and advancing sustainable practices across communities in the state.
He further called on all residents to partner with the government in maintaining a clean and safe environment.
“I urge all Edo residents to join us in keeping our environment clean, green, and safe. Together, we can build a better tomorrow,” he said.
World Environment Day is observed annually on June 5 to encourage global awareness and action for the protection of the environment.
