2027: Political Credibility of HSD, Boost Confidence of NDC Candidates Across Nigeria - TDM

As political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, the political credentials, consistency and democratic convictions of the National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Distinguished Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, have been identified as major sources of confidence for the party’s candidates across the country.

According to the national Coordinator of the Dickson Movement For Democracy (TDM) and a prominent member of NDC, Comrade Emmanuel Ogbidi, the Dickson’s longstanding record of political engagement, ideological consistency and commitment to opposition politics has strengthened the confidence of NDC candidates preparing to contest elective positions at both the national and state levels.

TDM described Dickson as a political figure with the capacity to defend the interests of the party and its candidates, while remaining committed to the principles of equity, fairness, justice and constitutional democracy.

They said the presence of a leader with such political credentials would give NDC candidates the courage to enter the 2027 electoral contest with renewed confidence and determination.

“Going into the 2027 election with such a bold political figure who can stand to defend what he believes in and defend the interests of NDC candidates, including the presidential candidate, gives the entire ticket a strong sense of confidence,” he said.

TDM further noted that Dickson’s political journey dates back several decades, recalling that he became the first legal adviser of the then Alliance for Democracy (AD) in 1998 and subsequently remained actively involved in opposition politics, even at periods when doing so was considered politically difficult.

According to TDM, Dickson’s decision to remain committed to opposition politics rather than follow prevailing political currents demonstrates his ideological conviction and political resilience.

They argued that the circumstances surrounding the formation of the NDC further underscored Dickson’s commitment to preserving Nigeria’s multiparty democratic system and preventing the country from drifting towards a one-party political structure.

“Instead of following the crowd, he chose to create a path for the crowd to follow. His commitment was driven by the need to strengthen constitutional democracy and preserve a viable multiparty system,” he stated.

TDM said the same political determination that contributed to the emergence of the NDC would, in his view, inspire the party’s candidates as they prepare for the 2027 elections.

They expressed optimism that the NDC would secure significant representation at the National Assembly and state Houses of Assembly, while also positioning itself as a to win the presidency come 2027.

TDM maintained that Dickson’s political reputation had become an important asset for the NDC, particularly as Nigerians and influential political stakeholders assess the credibility of political parties ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to them, the confidence being expressed by senior opinion leaders, statesmen and political actors across the country in Dickson and the NDC could translate into broader support for the party’s candidates.

They said Dickson’s political brand was built on consistency and years of active participation in opposition politics, describing him as a politician who had demonstrated the ability to remain committed to his convictions despite changing political circumstances.

“Dickson is a political brand that has remained consistent. He has fought from the opposition and achieved political victories at different times. The 2027 election, therefore, presents another opportunity for him to lead NDC candidates into a strong electoral contest,” he said.

TDM added that the credibility of the NDC leadership would continue to serve as a source of motivation for candidates across the country, particularly those campaigning on the platform of democratic accountability, rule of law, equity and people-oriented governance.

They expressed confidence that NDC candidates would use the 2027 elections to deepen the party’s presence across the country and contribute to what he described as the strengthening of Nigeria’s multiparty democracy.

He also urged Nigerians to critically assess the antecedents, ideological commitments and leadership records of all candidates before casting their votes, stressing that the future of the country’s democracy should remain the central consideration in the 2027 electoral process.
