DICKSON'S PRINCIPLES OF PRUDENCE, ACCOUNTABILITY, TRANSPARENCY, REFLECTS ON NDC
_...NDC Has Set A Standard of Financial Integrity for Political Parties in Nigeria..._
Comrade Emmanuel Ogbidi, the National Coordinator of the Dickson Movement for Democracy (TDM), has stated that the characters of prudence, transparency and accountability of the National leader of NDC HE Dist. Sen Henry Seriake Dickson as his core values has rub-off on the party (NDC), expressing confidence that these principles would define her administration if elected into power in 2027.
Ogbidi made the statements while reacting to the party’s financial disclosures at its third National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, where the party’s financial managers reportedly presented an account of its income and expenditure to members.
He said the exercise demonstrated the commitment of the NDC National Leader and Grand Patron of the Dickson Movement for Democracy, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, to financial discipline and responsible leadership.
According to him, the public presentation of the party’s financial records represents exactly what the National Leader was doing as Governor of Bayelsa, showing accountability to the people, which is also a significant step towards promoting accountability in Nigeria’s political system.
Ogbidi noted that the decision to present the party’s financial statements before members demonstrated that the NDC was prepared to subject its financial activities to scrutiny rather than operate behind closed doors.
He said the development reflected Dickson’s personal commitment to transparency and had established a standard that other political parties should emulate.
“The principles of prudence, transparency and accountability are core values of our National Leader, and these values are now reflected in the NDC. The party has demonstrated that it is accountable to its members and, by extension, to Nigerians,” Ogbidi said.
He added that the same principles would guide an NDC-led federal government when the party secured victory in the 2027 general election.
According to him, Nigerians deserve a government that would openly account for public funds and ensure that the nation's common patrimony is managed in the collective interest of the people.
Ogbidi maintained that transparency in the management of public resources would help restore public confidence in governance and ensure that elected officials prioritised service delivery over personal interests.
He commended the party’s leadership and financial officers for what he described as a demonstration of financial integrity, noting that the presentation had reinforced his confidence in the party’s ability to manage its affairs responsibly.
Citing figures reportedly presented at the meeting, Ogbidi said the party had received more than N8.7 billion since its inception, with approximately N6.7 billion remaining in its coffers and about N2.7 billion spent on party activities.
He argued that the figures demonstrated the party’s commitment to financial prudence and its determination to build a sustainable financial base.
According to him, a party capable of managing its finances responsibly would be better positioned to operate independently without undue reliance on wealthy political interests or funds from questionable sources.
Ogbidi said the NDC's reported financial position would strengthen its capacity to meet its obligations and sustain its political activities over the coming years.
He further argued that the party’s financial stability could help protect its independence and enable it to focus on developing policies and programmes that address the needs of Nigerians.
The NDC chieftain called on Nigerians to consider the party’s commitment to financial accountability when making their political choices ahead of the 2027 general election.
He expressed optimism that an NDC-led administration would promote transparency, integrity and performance in public service, adding that leaders should be accountable to the people rather than expect the people to serve their personal interests.
“Leadership should be about serving the people, not waiting for the people to serve those in positions of authority. Nigerians deserve leaders who are transparent, accountable and committed to the responsible management of public resources,” he said.
Ogbidi congratulated the NDC leadership, particularly Senator Dickson, for what he described as the introduction of a standard of financial accountability that other political parties should seek to emulate.
He maintained that the party’s commitment to prudent financial management, if sustained, could help strengthen public trust in its leadership and governance agenda.
He concluded by urging Nigerians to give the NDC an opportunity to lead the country in 2027, expressing confidence that the party would prioritise transparency, accountability and the effective management of national resources.
