Image
Edo State doctors under the umbrella of the Medical and Dental Consultants of Nigeria (MDCAN) have embarked on a two-day warning strike to protest the imposition of Nelson Tenebe, brother of the state’s All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman, Jarret Tenebe, as the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Edo State Hospital Management Agency (HMA). Nelson Tenebe, who is alleged to have presented dubious and questionable academic qualifications, was recently appointed by Governor Monday Okpebholo following intense lobbying and political influence from his brother, Jarret Tenebe, sparking widespread outrage and controversy within the State's healthcare system. Doctors and other stakeholders in the sector, outraged by the appointment, which they described as “politically motivated,” had warned of its disastrous consequences on healthcare delivery in the State and threatened to shut down the system if the decision was not reversed. The doctors under the aegis of ...

Chris Akhabue  The Oba of Benin, Omo N'Oba N' Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare 11, earlier today, through the Benin Traditional Council (BTC), sternly issue a warning to the general public to desist from the unauthorized use of Palace Paraphernalia in ceremonies. The council while briefing newsmen said it had noticed for some time now that some uninformed and disgruntled elements when performing marriage and burial ceremonies adorn themselves with the Benin Chieftaincy traditional paraphernalia such as the round coral beads (Ikele) Eben and Okuku.  "For the avoidance of doubt, the Eben is only used by titled chiefs when paying homage to the Oba of Benin "The Eben has not and is not part of the items used during marriage and burial ceremonies. It has also been noticed that some women and cultural groups as part of their dressing mode, adorn themselves with full paraphernalia including head-gears (okuku) which are the exclusive preserves of the Oba’s wiv...

NEED TO CURTAIL SENSELESS KILLINGS OF OUR WOMEN

Image
By Chris Akhabue   An abhorrent epidemic has taken root in our society—a relentless and needless escalation in the killings of young girls and women across our nation. This grim reality is not mere statistics, but a profound tragedy that reverberates through families; communities and the very fabric of our humanity. Unfortunately, this barbaric attitude is being accepted in Nigeria as part of the numerous evils that have defiled known solutions.  From the urban centers to the rural communities, the scourge of gender-based violence knows no geographical bounds. These heinous acts are often perpetrated by those who claim to love or protect, revealing a disturbing undercurrent of misogyny that is now permeating our culture. It is a sinister paradox that in a society that professes to value life and liberty, women and girls remain disproportionately vulnerable to violence and unwarranted brutal killings. The record is replete with stories of orgies of brutal kil...

Hon. Joseph Ikpea, A Patriot Imbued With Spirit of Service

Image
By Chris Tony Akhabue  Lack of patriotism towards the socio-economic and political framework of the Nigeria society has immensely contributed to apathy in civic responsibilities and political engagement which has in turn orchestrated the weakening of democratic and public institutions and the rise in corruption.  Without patriots to hold leaders accountable, the government may become unresponsive to the needs of the people. Instead of the pursuit of the general good, leaders entrusted with the procurement of the general plenitude focus on short-term personal gains over long-term general interests which hinders economic growth and development, because such individuals prioritize self-interest over the collective good.  However, every society, regardless of its cultural or linguistic background, is endowed with individuals driven by a profound sense of purpose – individuals who prioritize the well-being of others above all else. These few visionaries, imbued...

IKPEA: Paragon of Excellent Character With Intellectual Acumen for the Edo Central Senatorial Position

Image
By Chris Tony Akhabue   Let me reiterate once again that articulating intention could be simple but that the true measure of such intention is demonstrated only through implementation. A man's commitment to a cause is best evaluated by the extent to which he aligns his words with practical actions. The proliferation of declarations from aspirants vying for the Edo Central Senatorial district by-election grows increasingly compelling. Yet, amidst this cacophony, there exists a palpable line of demarcation between lofty aspirations—often expressed through social media—and the requisite intellectual rigor, character strength, and mental capacity to actualize such ambitions. A German acquaintance once remarked that possessing good intentions without the means to execute them is simply "useful-less," rendering such endeavors futile. Social media, while being a fertile ground for the cultivation of dreams and illusions, unfortunately lacks the necessary resources...

Image
Worried by the high rate of incessant criminality in Ogun State, the state government on Friday announced that it is contemplating signing the death warrants of condemned offenders sentenced by competent courts. According to the government, this move would deter others from committing heinous crimes in the state. The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Oluwasina Ogungbade, SAN, made this known after inspecting inmates and facilities at the Correctional Centre, Ibara, Abeokuta. Ogungbade expressed concern over the rise in violent crimes in the state in recent years, including cultism, ritual killings, and kidnapping. He emphasized that the state government is prepared to take decisive action by issuing death warrants and enforcing the law. He said: “I can tell you that we are seriously considering sending a strong message that Ogun State is not a place where you can commit such serious crimes and get away with it. “The law, as it stands today, stipulates...

IKPEA HAS EXCELLENT STRENGTH OF CHARACTER, INTELLECTUAL, MENTAL CAPITAL FOR EDO CENTRAL SENATORIAL JOB

Image
By Chris Tony Akhabue  Intentions are easy to accentuate because words are cheap. But the seriousness of intentions are evaluated at the point of execution and one of the ways to measure a man's commitment to a project is the extent to which he is matching words with actions. The deluge of declarations of intentions by aspirants for the Edo Central Senatorial district by-election is increasing by the day and it is getting interesting. However, there exists a palpable line of dichotomy between fantasy, improbable mental illusions expressed in social media that illustrates meaning well but without the corresponding intellectual, strength of character and mental capacity to accomplish such intentions. My German friend once told me that meaning well without being able to do well is "usefulless", meaning such exercise is in futility, as social media only provides fertile grounds for the flourishing of such fantasies and illusions but unfortunately, witho...
