Edo 2024: Why (Dr) Dorry Okojie's Aspiration is Edo-Centric

Image
By Lucky Isibor As the Edo State 2024 governorship election gets closer by the day, a lot of Edo sons and daughters are jostling for the top seat and expectedly there are attempts to sell the various aspirants for the position.                       Edo people certainly want to entrust the governance of their state to a trust worthy person whose administration will be fair and just to them, be prudent in the allocation and management of their resources and be accountable to them. As the people intensify their search for a new chief executive of the state, they're resolved to ensure that only the best is good enough for the state.  They need someone with a verifiable means of livelihood; who has been a success in his private business ventures, someone they can have access to anytime the need arises and not the one who will only allow them see him when he needs them and not those who have lived the better part of their life on government and its resources. Benin - Auchi Road: Example of Government Criminal Negligence/Waywardness

Image
By Chris Tony Akhabue To some, travelling through Libya desert, and the Mediterranean Sea to Europe is easier, more comfortable and less hazardous than traveling to Abuja through Benin- Auchi road. This opinion though an overstatement, however, from investigations, has immense semblance with the above viewpoint. Going to Europe through Libya desert and going to Abuja through Benin-Auchi dangerous tracks shares almost same life threatening potentials . To most Nigerian youths of today, considering the life of despondency of Nigerian populace, taking the first option might make more sense than the later. The journey to determine the extent of the deplorable condition of the Benin Auchi road by a team of journalists began at 7 am few days back. A commercial vehicle was hired for the trip that appeared more or less a suicide mission.  Yes, a suicide mission it is for anyone plying that stretch of the road from Benin to Ekpoma up to Okenne and Abuja. Aside from the

In the meantime,  there is no blinking the fact that, given his social, business and political engagements, the redemptive developmental architecture he desires for Edo State is easily discernible. WHY EDO PEOPLE ARE CLAMOURING FOR DR DORRY OKOJIE

Image
BY CHRIS TONY AKHABUE It wasn't an argument of sort but a friendly conversation by some youths in Edo state over the weekend . I happened to be there at the time, to have a first hand update of the perception of the people of Dr Dorry Okojie, an Edo 2024 governorship aspirant. "I don't understand why everybody is saying that Dr Dorry Okojie is likely going to be the next governor of Edo state. Why is everyone saying so? One of them asked  "Ehn, it is because of his unwavering and unparalleled impeccable moral strength of character and his towering success and achievements in the private sector". The other person responded. "Is he the only person who has these qualities"? Another person asked. I was quiet and savouring the ongoing discussion. " You see, you need to closely observe people you vote for into leadership positions particularly governorship position", the second person began " Let me tell you, for instance, a

Dorry Okojie And Culture Of Accountability In Governance

Image
Building a culture of accountability in governance flourishes in an environment of leadership by example. Leadership by example means that what you desire in your team must be seen in you.People around you are more inspired when what you preach is what you do.That way, you are able to model the behavior you want to see in them. Inability to get to where we are supposed to be over the years has been blamed on leadership deficit.  Lack of accountability in governance hampers growth and stymies the delivering of democracy dividends. For Dorry Okojie, leadership by example is a creed he holds dear.  This is the man Edo needs now. He has demonstrated trustworthiness, accountability, honesty in the use and deployment of resources. Accountability promotes judicious and prudent use of resources-- and that translates to improved social and economic development of the State. Given the opportunity to serve Edo State, Dorry will enthrone the culture of accountability in governance--

(Dr) Dorry Okojie To Remodel Governance With Competence and Character.

From Chris Akhabue It is a popular saying that the only mistake we make in life is the one from which we learn nothing.  Ironically, and paradoxically too, most of our leaders and the electorates have, unfortunately, not been able to learn much from repeated mistakes made by successive governments and the electorates themselves . Past leaders repeatedly starved and failed the electorates by breaching their electioneering promises of provision of dividends of democracy so much so that the people have ultimately lost confidence in most of our politicians. The nature of democracy is that it has a way of throwing up wrong and clueless individuals without the basic knowledge in human and material management in public offices as a result of the mistakes the electorates make through wrong choices This scenario has been a recurring feature in our polity and has been the leading cause of gross under development of human and infrastructural development. DORRY OKOJIE, A MAN FOR WHOM ACTION SPEAKS.

Image
By Irabor Godwin When people make boastful, exaggerated, sweet and hyperbolic statements and promises, it is because talk is cheap. Talking and doing are not in the same compartment. Words are easy to pour out, but doing is a tedious task. There are people who don't mean what they say, let alone implement them but are very energetic in releasing words. Dorry Okojie is in a unique class. He stands out and very tall indeed, for being a man whose actions and results speak, far more than what he is willing to express in words. He allows results to speak for him. Calm, highly organized and charismatic, his generousity, like morning dews , continues to wet those that chance upon him, pulling down ethnic and religious cleavages. He combines a robust devotion to principles with a marvelous sense of self discipline. The doors of his office and home are always open and he never grumbles attending to those who come seeking help or assistance. His investment in  productive ventures

Why Dorry Okojie Has Youths Buy- in for Edo Governorship Aspiration

Image
By Lucky Isibor A total of 75.4 percent of Nigeria's voter population are between the ages of 18 and 49, while 39.65 percent of the voters are between the ages of 18 and 34. These statistics from the Independent National Electoral Commission clearly show that when adequately mobilised, the youths will be determining who gets what in the contestation for elective offices in Nigeria. It is against this background it's gratifying to note that Edo youths have keyed into the gubernatorial aspiration of Dr. Efosa Dorry Okojie (EDO). They have demonstrated their unalloyed buy-in, not only in words, but in deeds as they're taking practical steps at every political bend for the realization of his aspiration.  The first of such steps is the erection of bill boards of Dorry Okojie across the nooks and crannies of Edo State. The youths have organised themselves into various groups across the state, contributed resources with which they're erecting Dr. Dorry Okojie's

THE CAPACITY OF THE YOUTHS IN GOVERNANCE; 2023 GENERAL ELECTIONS IN RETROSPECT, A POINTER TO EDO 2024

Image
By Akpejiori Apollinaris Igenegba. Three, four, five decades ago, it's said that major decisions and leadership positions in a community are taken by elders because they have the required knowledge and experience to lead and rule the people, even when it seemed that mistakes have been made, they are unquestionable, if you try to, you incur the wrath of the ancestors. But if we look at it critically, does it mean that the younger ones lacked the required skills, and knowledge to deliver on tasks if given, or lacked the necessary experience or capacity to take up leadership positions and make decisions.  Capacity is the ability to perform a given task, even in the face of challenges, it's not derived or learned, it's inherent in an individual. Capacity doesn't know age, location, strata, status or occupation, it just comes out naturally without coersion or intimidation, it produces results seemlesly and distinguishes itself even in the face of challenges and d

A Nigerian University Don and Development and Health Economist with Mudiame University Irrua, Edo State, Dr. Francis Ilenloa Igberaese has said that there is no health model that gives the poor access to quality healthcare in his country.  He made this disclosure as part of his research gap at the SCOPUS International Conference on Economics and Business holding in Edinburgh, Scotland.  He observed that millions of Nigerians live without having access to medical facilities but solely dependent on Orthodox medication as a result of poverty  According to him, " millions of poor people live without seeing a doctor but patronizing local herbalists whose efficacies are highly doubtful. He stated that since the country still mainly practise the outdated Out-of-Pocket model of healthcare delivery, those who do not have money are left to die before their times while many of them who may not die found themselves in permanent states of morbidity; the state of disability me
